Scott Boras’ offseason had its ups and downs, first starting with a home run by placing Juan Soto with the New York Mets with the most lucrative contract in history. He also fulfilled his promise to redeem himself with Blake Snell and add him to the Los Angeles Dodgers rotation, after a year earlier he barely got him a short contract with the San Francisco Giants. But on the negative side, he has yet to secure a good deal for two of the best players available in free agency: Pete Alonso and Alex Bregman.

Reports indicate that Pete Alonso turned down a seven-year, $158 million extension offer in 2023, and negotiations this offseason are stalled, although according to Mets owner Steve Cohen, they have already made him a significant offer, which is rumored to be around $68-70 million for three years.

At the Mets FanFest on Saturday, Cohen said he was tired of the strategy in the negotiations, which according to Evan Roberts of WFAN on the “Rico Brogna Podcast”, it was a new condition, in which Boras would have presented contracts in which he claims that if Alonso opts out, the Mets should pay him an additional bonus.

Mets fans blame Scott Boras for Pete Alonso situation

Pete Alonso is one of the fans’ favorite players and with negotiations stalling, they have directed their fury at Scott Boras and blame him for hurting the first baseman, who after his recent rejections is getting further and further away from returning to Queens.

“Boras has done Pete dirty. I feel bad for Pete. I can’t imagine he could have foreseen this. I want to see him stay with the Mets, but I don’t see that happening right now,” one fan lamented on social media, while another added “He’s taking the fun out of the game and taking advantage of players, fans and teams for his own benefit.”
