When 11yearold Zhuri James was spotted displaying impressive ballhandling skills courtside during a Los Angeles Lakers game last weekend, fans immediately buzzed with speculation about her future in basketball.

The daughter of Lakers legend LeBron James and Savannah James has grown up in the basketball spotlight, but it’s her mother’s candid stance on her athletic trajectory that has dominated the conversation.

In a postgame press conference after the Lakers‘ matchup against the Golden State Warriors, James made it clear that, despite Zhuri‘s visible talent and her viral moments on social media, the next chapter of her sports journey won’t involve following her father and brothers into organized basketball.

“She’s a volleyball player, don’t get my wife mad. My wife is done with this basketball, she’s done with it,” James said with a laugh, injecting levity into the topic while making a pointed observation about his wife’s feelings toward the sport that has shaped much of their lives.

The remark sent ripples through social media, where fans and analysts alike debated whether Zhuri might one day emerge as a basketball star.

But James was quick to double down with more context about his daughter’s emerging athletic identity.

“[Zhuri] a volleyball player, but she’s been around the game for a while… got good handles… good form too,” he added, acknowledging the skill that sparked the speculation. “But, my wife ain’t playing that. Not another one. She says that’s it.”

A different path for the youngest James

Zhuri, the youngest of three children, has already shown a range of interests beyond basketball.

While her older brothers LeBron “Bronny” James Jr. and Bryce Maximus James have pursued traditional basketball paths, with Bronny now on the Lakers roster and Bryce playing at the collegiate level, Zhuri has gravitated toward other pursuits.

She has been involved in volleyball for several years, often attending matches and participating in youth leagues. Her father has celebrated her progress publicly, sharing moments from her games and cheering her on from the sidelines.

In addition to her athletic activities, Zhuri has cultivated a vibrant public persona. She has appeared at highprofile family events and developed a presence through social media, where her YouTube channel All Things Zhuri offers a glimpse into her life and interests beyond sports.

For Savannah James, who has been a constant partner to LeBron since their highschool days and is deeply involved in their children’s lives, the decision to steer Zhuri away from another demanding sport like basketball has a personal logic.

After years of juggling travel, training, and the pressures that come with elite youth basketball, she has expressed a desire for her daughter to enjoy a more balanced upbringing, something she sees reflected in Zhuri‘s enjoyment of volleyball and other activities outside the hardwood.
