Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez (62-2-2, 39 KO’s) has revealed one of his best-kept secrets related to his diet, a nutritional regimen that has kept him at the top as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world.

The Mexican fighter confessed that he fasts for more than a day, just as he was doing when interacting with Paulo Chavira, a content creator who visited his training camp.

Canelo Álvarez’s confession

“The dinner is the one you have to eat well. Dinner is the tricky part, no carbs. No fats, a very light dinner,” Saúl Álvarez said in a video uploaded to Chavira’s social media. “Right now, I’ve been fasting for almost two days. Just water and black coffee. Tonight at 9, I’ll have completed two days. I haven’t eaten anything, just water. And I’m going to do three days, let it be 48 hours,” he added.

During the first press conference to promote his upcoming fight against William Scull in May, the Mexican boxer did an activity with a DAZN reporter who explained that Canelo had to “punch him” in the stomach every time he mentioned a boxer he thought was better than the Mexican.

Which boxers were mentioned and which ones caused Canelo to punch?

One of the boxers mentioned was Caleb Plant, who was defeated by the Mexican, making him the first absolute Mexican and Latin American champion in history at 168 pounds. Other names that were mentioned were Willian Scull, Edgar Berlanga, Bernard Hopkins, Julio César Chávez, Marvin Hagler, and Golovkin, but with no reaction from Canelo.

The boxer who caused the first punch

It wasn’t until Dmitry Bivol’s name came up that the boxer gave his first punch to the reporter, acknowledging that his opponent was better when they fought: “That night he was better than me.”

“Usyk? Roberto Durán? Floyd Mayweather?” were other names that made the reporter receive more punches. “At that time, they were better than me,” he replied.

Finally, the last boxer questioned was the great legend Muhammad Ali, which caused Canelo to give one last punch, showing that he considers Ali better than him, acknowledging him as one of the greats.
