Saquon Barkley‘s fiancee is extremely excited about the new contract that the Philadelphia Eagles running back is set to receive, and she knows who to thank.
Barkley joined the Eagles in 2024 and many thought that they were massively overspending on a running back, given it was a $37.8 million deal.
Now, he is set to be given a payrise and have his longer-term future secured with the Super Bowl winners thanks to his excellent year.
A lucrative new deal
He is now being given a new two-year deal worth $41.2 million, and he will become the highest-paid back player in the history of the NFL.
As was reported by Adam Schefter: “Eagles are rewarding Saquon Barkley with a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, per sources. The deal makes Barkley the NFL’s first $20 million+ per-year running back. Barkley also has the ability to earn an additional $15 million in incentives and escalators. The deal includes $36 million fully guaranteed at signing. The Eagles are taking the rare step of extending Barkley one year into his three-year deal – and in the same league year in which they signed him to the initial contract.”
Barkley himself reacted to the news on Instagram, saying: “Overflow! Grateful for the Eagles Organization , grateful for my team, grateful for the amazing fans in Philly. Fly Eagles Fly.”
His fiancee, Anna Congdon, was quick to show that she is thanking Jesus for the new contract, commenting ‘Let Jesus cook’ on Saquon‘s post.
