The Philadelphia Eagles are gearing up for a high-stakes rematch against the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX this Sunday at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

While Taylor Swift‘s presence at Chiefs games has become a season-long storyline, Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is hoping to leverage her past allegiance to Philadelphia to rally her massive fanbase-the Swifties-behind his team.

Barkley’s remarks

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Barkley sent a lighthearted message to Swift‘s devoted followers, encouraging them to root for the Eagles, citing her lifelong loyalty to the team before her relationship with Kelce.

“She was an Eagles fan her whole life. I think the Swifties should come to our side,” said Barkley, the former New York Giants star who recently joined Philadelphia.

His comments reference Swift‘s well-documented connection to the Philadelphia Eagles, which she previously spoke about during her Eras Tour stop in Philadelphia last year.

Swift, who grew up in Pennsylvania, has made multiple references to the Eagles in her music. In her song Gold Rush from the 2020 album Evermore, she sings about “my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door.”

Her lyrics sparked debate among fans, with some wondering if she was referencing the NFL team or the legendary rock band The Eagles. However, Swift clarified the meaning during her 2023 concert in Philadelphia.

“I saw some people wondering if it was the band The Eagles or the team… and I love the band The Eagles, but guys, like, come on,” Swift told the crowd. “Like, I’m from Philly. Of course, it’s the team.”

This revelation delighted Eagles fans, reinforcing their belief that Swift was always on their side-at least before Travis Kelce entered the picture.

Since dating Kelce, Swift has been a regular presence at Chiefs games, attending nine games this season and watching from a VIP suite alongside Kelce‘s family and friends. Notably, the Chiefs have won every game she has attended.

While Barkley‘s playful pitch to the Swifties is entertaining, it’s unlikely to sway Swift‘s allegiance ahead of the Super Bowl. In fact, Kelce confirmed earlier this week that she will be “all in for the Chiefs” this time around.
