The Tennessee Titans fired HC Brian Callahan this Monday following a 1-5 start to his second season with the franchise. This situation should be concerning for Cleveland Browns HC Kevin Stefanski, as both coaches have an identical 4-19 record since the start of the 2024 season.

After the announcement, Stefanski addressed the situation and said: “Obviously, hate to see that news down in Tennessee. I talked to Brian, have not talked to Bill.”

Callahan and Stefanski’s similar struggles

As HC of the Titans, Callahan faced some of the same struggles as Stefanski with the Browns. First of all, a rookie starting quarterback.

Cam Ward has struggled making the jump from college to the NFL. With the league’s worst rated offense, he has only completed 55% of his passes, with three touchdowns against four interceptions in six games.

Meanwhile, Stefanski started the preseason with a stacked QB room and now has only two healthy signal-callers, both rookies (Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders).

Gabriel has struggled as well, completing only 57% of his passes, with three touchdowns. Almost identical numbers to Ward.

The offensive struggles are literally the same, as both teams average an identical 13.6 points per game through six matches this season.

Stefanski’s history backs him

While Callahan has struggled since landing the head coach job in Tennessee, Stefanski has a proven record in Cleveland.

Stefanski has led the Browns to the playoffs twice and earned NFL Coach of the Year honors in 2020 and 2023.

That may still not be enough, as Browns owner Jimmy Haslam seems desperate for success, not even a ring, just playoffs and a star QB.
