No WNBA player can say they had a better week than Angel Reese. On the same day that Reebok announced the Angel Reese 1, her first signature shoe, it was also revealed that she will grace the cover of the WNBA Edition of NBA 2K26. That latter decision was met with criticism from fans who don’t feel her on-court performance deserves it, but it was a historic day for the second-year player.

While all of this was happening, her arch nemesis, Caitlin Clark, struggled in her return from a second multi-week injury this season. The injuries have ruined what could have been a legendary season for Clark. With her efficiency suffering as a result, it has once again sparked the Clark-Reese debate among a subsection of fans and analysts. For many, there’s no debate. And for certain players, they just want both to succeed.

Angel Reese debuts her signature Reebok shoe on NBA 2K26 cover

Sabrina Ionescu, the New York Liberty star, is one of those players. She loved the way Reese debuted her signature shoe while being revealed as the video game’s cover star. In her mind, it was like “knocking two birds with one stone“.

Knowing the significance and the importance of how cool it is to be on the cover of 2K, like, video games are played worldwide. Everyone knows who’s on the cover every single year. There’s this anticipation and I’m really happy for her to be able to see her kind of get her flowers so early in on her career just knowing that I was able to be on it and how much that meant for my family.

Ionescu knows all about video game covers and signature shoes. She graced the cover of the WNBA Edition of NBA 2K24. Just this week, the third version of her signature shoe with Nike was also unveiled.

While Clark is arguably the most talented player in the WNBA, Reese and Ionescu can both say they beat her to the punch when it comes to being on the cover of 2K and having a signature shoe. It may very well just be a matter of time for Clark to join both clubs, though.
