The Belarusian tennis player admits that when the season ends and her holidays begin, she disconnects from tennis, focuses on rest and life off the court.

Aryna Sabalenka: “During my two weeks off I do nothing and come back six kilos heavier”

Aryna Sabalenka confessed that she gained six kilos during her last break: “Normally I just take a couple of weeks off, and that’s it, and then I go back to training. During those two weeks I don’t do any exercise, and then I come back six kilos heavier.”

“I don’t care, I know how my mind works. I know that afterwards I will exercise a lot and lose them quickly, but it is essential not to exercise during those two weeks… Well, the truth is that I did go to the gym, I’m not going to lie, but only to walk on the treadmill. As for tennis, I didn’t pick up a racket during those 15 days; it’s important to take that time off to recharge and start again,” she told a press conference after beating Karolina Muchova in the semifinals of the WTA 500 in Brisbane.

Russian Kostyuk again refused to shake hands with Belarusian Sabalenka

Later, Aryna Sabalenka defeated Marta Kostyuk in the final of the Brisbane tournament in two sets (6-4, 6-3).

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk, who has not shaken hands with Russian or Belarusian players since the invasion of her country in 2022, again refused to greet Sabalenka.

“I want to say a few words about Ukraine. I play every day with pain in my heart. There are thousands of people who right now have no light or hot water. Outside it is -20 degrees. It is very painful to live this reality every day. My sister sleeps under three blankets because it is so cold at home. I was very touched and happy to see so many Ukrainian flags this week,” said Kostyuk after receiving the runner-up trophy.
