What seemed to be an imminent agreement for one of the most anticipated fights in boxing, between Shakur Stevenson and Teofimo Lopez, has taken an unexpected turn. Just when fans were getting ready to see the two champions go head-to-head, a new figure has burst onto the scene: Ryan Garcia, whose taunts on social media and interviews have ignited a flame that could completely alter the plans.

Social media exchange

It all started when Ryan Garcia, known for his controversial style, downplayed Stevenson’s recent victory over William Zepeda. In an interview with Cigar Talk, Garcia claimed that neither he nor his last opponent, Rolando Romero, would have any problems with Stevenson, unleashing a war of words on X. Shakur Stevenson was quick to respond, questioning Garcia’s record and mocking his defeat against Romero.

The exchange of insults escalated and in a video call between the two, the tension was evident. Garcia bluntly offered Stevenson a fight, even making a bet on the outcome.

The proposal comes at a delicate time, as Stevenson’s team remains cautious about Teofimo Lopez’s commitment. Although negotiations with Saudi boxing genius Turki Alalshikh are advanced and Stevenson has accepted the terms, Lopez’s track record, having backed out of fights in the past, such as his bout with Devin Haney, breeds distrust.

The real possibilities of a fight

It seems that Shakur Stevenson does not want to take risks. If Lopez decides to step back once again, the door is open for an electrifying fight against Ryan Garcia, an opponent who, despite the controversy, guarantees a great show and a juicy purse

The big question is which fight the fans will finally see, as with so much back-and-forth it seems there are several options, but only two vacant spots in the ring.
