There’s no doubt that Russell Wilson will be the Week 1 starter for the New York Giants when they open the season on the road against the Washington Commanders. This is despite having rookie Jaxson Dart – a first-round pick in the latest NFL Draft – behind him. However, Dart doesn’t seem ready yet to be the QB1.

In fact, reports from OTAs and minicamp were far from encouraging for Jaxson Dart, who threw multiple interceptions during those sessions. There are serious doubts about him. The Giants selected him out of sheer desperation at the quarterback position, and although Dart came out of Ole Miss, he was only a first-round pick because there wasn’t much quarterback talent in this year’s class.

Projections even had Shedeur Sanders as a better option than Jaxson Dart. There’s a lot of work ahead, and the situation is complicated for the New York Giants – especially for general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll, who need results immediately if they want to keep their jobs. They’re walking a fine line.

Russell Wilson projected to be a bust

There has been talk of Russell Wilson being a future Hall of Famer – something that’s definitely debatable, mainly based on what he accomplished with the Seattle Seahawks. But since leaving Seattle, he’s been a disappointment. He flopped with the Denver Broncos and, while he had some decent moments with the Pittsburgh Steelers, nothing stood out.

Since 2020, Wilson hasn’t thrown more than 30 touchdown passes in a season. That’s why Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report predicted that the 2014 Super Bowl winner will be a bust with the Giants in 2025.

“There didn’t seem to be a lot of interest in Wilson this offseason, which is unsurprising after he faded down the stretch with the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Knox said.

“If Wilson even wins the starting job out of training camp, don’t expect him to make New York a playoff contender or make fans forget that Dart is waiting in the wings.”

At the very least, Brian Daboll is expected to stick with Wilson for the first four games of the season. It’s worth noting that the Giants have a tough early schedule – opening against the Commanders, Cowboys, Chiefs, and then Chargers again. In Week 5, they face the Saints, and that might be when a change under center happens.
