All the NFL’s attention is currently focused on the Cleveland Browns’ training camp to follow the drama surrounding Shedeur Sanders, who is battling with three other quarterbacks to earn a roster spot before the preseason begins. But in New York, the story is also getting interesting.

The Giants are another team to watch closely during the preseason. After moving on from Daniel Jones, they’ve completely reshaped the quarterback position – first by signing Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency, and then trading up in the draft to select Jaxson Dart in the first round out of Ole Miss.

Also on the roster is Tommy DeVito, now entering his third year with the Giants. According to head coach Brian Daboll, Russell Wilson will start, but at some point, the Giants will have to see what the rookie Dart has in his arm – and that could happen sooner rather than later.

Russell Wilson spoke about the QB competition

Russell Wilson is a quarterback who has had success in the NFL, especially with the Seattle Seahawks, where he was selected in the third round and became a star. He even won a Super Bowl in 2014 – ironically, in the state of the New York Giants, his new team.

After his stint with the Seahawks, he went to the Broncos, where things were a disaster, and then had some good moments with the Steelers. Now with the Giants, he begins as the starter, but it seems that Jameis Winston and Jaxson Dart will be ready when called upon.

“It’s cool, man, it’s fun,” Wilson said. “Jameis is a great teammate. It’s been fun working together, trying to be our best every day. Obviously, Tommy DeVito – a guy who’s a real Italian Stallion out here. He’s in every restaurant. I think every girl in the city likes him, you know what I mean? But Tommy is great – he’s funny, a great teammate. I’m just getting to know Jaxson, but he’s young and going to be a young stud. You can see it in how he works and how seriously he takes things. So we’re having fun, man, but there’s no speech like Jameis’s speech.”

In Week 1, when the New York Giants visit the Washington Commanders, Russell Wilson is very likely to be the starting quarterback – especially since the first games are against the Commanders, then the Cowboys, Chiefs, and Chargers – a very tough stretch. By Week 5, against the New Orleans Saints, everything could change, and that might be when Jaxson Dart gets his shot.
