There is no doubt that a fight between Canelo Alvarezand Jake Paulwould be a momentous occasion for the sport of boxing, and it looks closer to happening than ever before.
Whilst his involvement still massively angers the more traditional boxing fans in the world, any event that features Jake Paul garners a huge amount of attention, be it negative or positive.
That huge commercial pull coupled with the undoubted quality of Canelo in the ring means that certain people would stand to earn a huge amount of money from a fight between Paul and Canelo.
Paul himself even spoke about the size of a fight between him and Canelo, once saying a ‘200lb for the cruiserweight championship of the world is the biggest fight.’
However, TMZ asked the Mexican fighter about Paul in November and his short response was ‘I’m not interested’.
Despite that, boxing detectives think that there is a gap in Canelo‘s calendar that Paul could be the perfect person to fill.
Could Canelo fight Jake Paul?
Canelo is in talks to face Terence Crawford in September 2025, but he has a vacant slot for a fight in May that he seems to be struggling to assign.
It seemed likely that William Scull would become the May opponent, but he is now expected to fight against Edgar Berlanga having started a feud with him.
Online boxing commentator Felipe Corral has now provided an update of his own, and taken a jab at Canelo in the process.
The boxing insider took to his X account and reported that Canelo Alvarez might be considering a fight against Jake Paul in May. He wrote: “What was leaked today here in Las Vegas, a personal friend of Canelo’s team. The possibility of Canelo facing Jake Paul in May.”
“Nothing surprises, for many Canelo is not even a boxer anymore,” he added.
