Julia Bonilla, the former partner of Minnesota Timberwolves star center Rudy Gobert, has released a heartfelt message directed to the child she is currently expecting.
Shared on Instagram with a photo of her holding her baby bump, the post marks a deeply personal moment following months of public attention surrounding the couple’s breakup.
In the emotional letter, Bonilla expressed a deep sense of purpose and hope, calling her unborn baby both “wanted” and “meant to be.”
She described the pregnancy as a beacon of light after experiencing what she referred to as painful personal challenges. Without naming Gobert, she pledged to protect her children and raise them in a nurturing environment grounded in love and resilience.
Her message centered on her commitment to her two children, noting their strong bond and her role as their protector amid external pressures.
A public breakup, private pain
The couple’s split became public in May, with widespread reports claiming that Gobert ended the relationship while Bonilla was pregnant with their second child.
Allegedly, he asked her and their young son, Romeo, to leave his residence.
Neither side has shared a complete account of what transpired, though Gobert later acknowledged the separation and said he would continue to support “the well-being of all the people that I care about,” while disputing some of the circulating narratives as misinformation.
Shortly after their breakup, Bonilla revealed the emotional toll the split had taken.
In a previous message, she described feeling alone and isolated, far from her support system in France, and admitted she was navigating one of the most painful chapters of her life. Recalling her sacrifices, including raising their son and prioritizing Gobert‘s NBA career, she called him “the love of my life.”
However, despite her hurt, she said she would not speak ill of him publicly out of respect for their children and the importance of protecting their father’s image.
Bonilla and Gobert, both originally from France, began dating in 2023 and made their relationship public in early 2024.
Their first child was born in May during the Timberwolves‘ playoff series against the Denver Nuggets. Shortly afterward, Bonilla became pregnant with their second child, leading up to the current situation.
Earlier in their relationship, Bonilla had also taken to social media to defend Gobert when he faced criticism from peers.
Following an NBA player poll in 2024 that labeled him “most overrated,” she responded by praising his discipline, character, and tireless work ethic.
Gobert, a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, began his professional career with Cholet in France before being selected in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets.
He was immediately traded to the Utah Jazz, where he played for 10 years before being dealt to the Timberwolves in 2022. Today, he remains one of the league’s most dominant centers.
While Gobert continues his NBA journey, Bonilla has turned her attention to family and the road ahead.
Her recent letter stands as a declaration of strength, love, and commitment to her children as she navigates motherhood in the aftermath of heartbreak.
