Heading into his May fight against Ryan Garcia, not many gave Rolando Romero much of a chance of coming out on top. Garcia has the name power, and Romero had lost two of his last four fights. Both losses were via knockout, which soured him in the eyes of fans, even though they came against Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz – two of the best in their divisions with big power.

Romero shut everyone up on fight night, beating Garcia handily by unanimous decision and putting the boxing world on notice once again. Romero was clearly talking about Devin Haney, who he had been asked about right before his comments on Alalshikh. Romero suggested putting weights on Haney’s legs, so that he wouldn’t be able to run around the ring.

Alalshikh works with Haney and he also works with Shakur Stevenson, who has been criticized plenty for his defensive style. There’s some truth to what Romero said, and he always keeps it real.
