Retirement for LeBron James? Absolutely not. He could play until he’s 50 at an All-Star level if he wanted

LeBron James recently fueled speculation about a potential retirement after starring in Hennessey’s new commercial titled Second Decision. However, for Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright, the idea of James stepping away from the game anytime soon is far from reality. In his view, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar still has plenty left in the tank-enough, in fact, to continue dominating the NBA for years to come, even into his 50s.

I think LeBron could play at an All-Star level. Right now, he’s at an All-NBA level. I think he could play at an All-Star level until he’s close to 50,.”… “When he quits, it’s going to be because either his family wants him to or there’s nothing left to do. We were expecting the age curve 10 years ago. And instead, what we have gotten is a slight one or two percent a year deterioration, to where he goes into this year as the seventh-best player in the sport?

Wright said, and added.

The cliff isn’t coming barring a catastrophic injury. So, he’ll play as long as he wants to. And he’ll probably play with folks’ feelings.

Those were the words of Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright, who sees no indication that LeBron’s performance is nearing any decline. Instead, he believes the four-time NBA champion continues to redefine the limits of longevity in professional basketball.

When will LeBron James retire?

For years, speculation has swirled around when LeBron James will finally decide to say goodbye to the NBA. The topic seems destined to remain alive as long as the “King” continues to perform at a high level, because even he appears uncertain about when the right time will come to hang up his sneakers.

James has one year remaining on his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, and rumors persist about whether he will sign an extension with the team or perhaps return to his hometown of Cleveland to close out his legendary career.

Many have compared his path to that of Tom Brady, who continued to compete at an elite level well into his 40s. Given LeBron’s remarkable durability, work ethic, and physical conditioning, it’s not far-fetched to believe he could keep dominating the NBA well beyond age 45.

The start of the 2025-26 NBA season

The 2025-26 NBA season is fast approaching. Tip-off is set for Tuesday, October 21, when the Lakers open their campaign against the Golden State Warriors, a matchup expected to be explosive from the start.

Hosting their first game at home, the Lakers are determined to make an early statement: this year’s mission is championship or bust. There will be no easing into the season. From the opening seconds, the team plans to play with maximum intensity and remind everyone that Los Angeles still belongs among the league’s elite.

LeBron James, for his part, intends to leave a lasting mark and ensure that no one dares to take his throne as long as he remains on an NBA court.
