“I don’t think this piece will come to market again during my lifetime,” O’Leary said, via CNBC, after obtaining the card. “I’m very proud to own it. I’ve been looking at this asset class now for three years. It’s an extraordinary return,” he declares.
What grabbed the most attention was the staggering price: O’Leary and his partners, from Spain and Miami, paid $12,932,000 for the card, surpassing the legendary 1982 Topps Mickey Mantle card and setting a new milestone in sports memorabilia.
