Starting his second year with the Kansas City Chiefs injured after a solid rookie year was not what Rashee Rice expected, nor did his teammates.
In Week 4, the wide receiver tore the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee, requiring surgery and causing him to miss the entire season, including the Super Bowl, where they were soundly defeated by the Philadelphia Eagles 40-22. He had 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns, incredible numbers that he had to put an end to in order to recover.
Now, as he prepares to rejoin the lineup, Rice sent a strong and powerful message to the entire team and fans. Through his official Instagram account, the 25-year-old rising star shared a photo in his stories accompanied by the words: “2k yards incoming.”
A 2025 that could bring great things with Rice
This message is a breath of fresh air and a ray of hope for Kansas City after a 2024 season that did not go as expected. Hollywood Brown was also injured, and rookie Xavier Worthy had to carry more weight on his shoulders than he should have.
Added to this was Travis Kelce‘s forgettable season, in which he not only appeared indifferent to some plays, but also recorded 97 receptions for 823 yards and only three touchdowns.
However, this year seems to be different: Kelce is in shape and hungry for victory, Brown and Isiah Pacheco are recovered and ready for action, improvements at left tackle with Jaylon Moore and Josh Simmons, and with Rice on the field, Kansas has what it takes to face its rivals. Even Patrick Mahomes could benefit from all this, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, and the Chiefs “could end up being better than last year“:
“Hope to the idea of Brown and Xavier Worthy getting downfield and unlocking Mahomes’s deep ball again. Plus, Rice and Travis Kelce running free in the space vacated underneath by defenders chasing the burners.”
For the analyst, the important thing for this to happen is for the roster to stay healthy, and if so, “it sure feels to me like Mahomes could have another MVP season.”
Now, it remains to be seen whether Rice’s promise will come true and whether Breer’s prophecy will ultimately be fulfilled.
