Prince Harry appeared momentarily lost for words when asked about Taylor Swift during a recent interview – an exchange that has reignited public speculation about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s distant relationship with the pop icon.

Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have surrounded themselves with Hollywood elites, but Swift has notably remained outside their social circle.

Reports suggest the singer turned down two separate invitations to appear on Meghan‘s now-cancelled podcasts.

During an appearance on Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know, Harry was caught off guard when host Hasan Minhaj brought up the rumored feud between Taylor Swift and Charli XCX.

“What do you think of this Charli XCXTaylor Swift beef?” Minhaj asked, but whilst looking visibly puzzled, Harry responded, “The what?… Oh no.”

Minhaj pressed further, jokingly insisting, “No, this is serious, because was Charli‘s diss track even a diss track?”

The supposed tension between Swift and Charli stems from lyrics in Taylor‘s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, and specifically in the song Actually Romantic.

Swift sings, “I heard you call me ‘Boring Barbie’ when the coke’s got you brave,” a line fans have interpreted as a jab at Charli XCX. Neither artist has confirmed the rumor.

Despite regularly mingling with celebrities, Harry appeared genuinely unaware of the alleged drama as he smiled nervously and looked off-camera.

Minhaj elaborated, “To me, ‘Sympathy Is a Knife’ was about something completely different, but then Taylor comes back and I think escalates it with the Actually Romantic thing.”

As Minhaj sought Harry‘s reaction, the Duke managed only a hesitant “I-” before the host moved on, ending the exchange with a laugh. The lighthearted moment reflected Harry‘s detachment from pop culture gossip and drew amused reactions from viewers.

Meghan‘s connection with Taylor Swift

While the interview was playful, it also reminded many of Meghan Markle‘s previous efforts to collaborate with Swift as multiple reports claim the Duchess personally reached out to the pop star to appear on her Archetypes and Confessions of a Female Founder podcasts.

According to The Wall Street Journal, Swift‘s team declined both invitations, including one that came with a personal letter from Meghan. A source close to production later admitted that “no one” from Swift‘s circle responded.

“There’s no Taylor Swift. No Beyoncé. Not even a Hailey Bieber,” the source summed up, despite the fact that the Duchess, said to be an admirer of Swift‘s music, even attended the singer’s Eras Tour concert in Los Angeles in 2023.

Still, no public friendship ever materialized between the two women and by contrast, Swift has maintained friendly ties with Prince William. She shared a selfie with the Prince and his children at the opening night of her London Eras Tour show in 2024.

The official Prince and Princess of Wales account later posted the photo, captioned, “Thank you Taylor Swift for a great evening!”

Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan continue to navigate their lives outside the royal sphere – focusing on media ventures, advocacy, and family.

While Meghan‘s celebrity connections remain a topic of fascination, Harry‘s recent confusion over Swift‘s pop-culture feud may be a sign he’s far more interested in life’s deeper issues.
