The erroneousmap of France that was shown when Victor Wembanyama, one of the most media-savvy players in the world and therefore one of the great figures of the event, was announced. Even the President of the French Republic joked about it on social networks.
When the Spurs’ French giant was introduced, the screens at the spectacular Intuir Dome in Los Angeles projected a map of France where the regions of Alsace and Lorraine were missing but a part of northern Spain, especially Catalonia, was integrated. It dated from the time of the Capetians, the dynasty that reigned between the 10th and 14th centuries.
“I want to reassure our neighbors: we did not provide the map,” said President Macron, who was delighted with Wembanyama’s presence at the event: “Wemby is our French pride!”.
When Nikola Jokic was introduced, the map of Serbia also included Kosovo, which is now independent. Just this Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote this message: “On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of the Republic of Kosovo on their Independence Day.” Not everyone knew.
