After much speculation about the future of the Genesis Invitational, the PGA Tour has finally made a decision about one of the world’s most prestigious tournaments.
The fires in Southern California have disrupted plans for many events, from awards ceremonies to golf courses. Los Angeles has been the home of this championship for many years, but this time it will not be the host.
The Genesis Invitational, led by Tiger Woods, was scheduled for February 13-16 at the legendary Pacific Palisades course.
Where will it be played?
According to Sports Illustrated, the $20 million tournament will be played at Torrey Pines in San Diego.
Torrey Pines is hosting the Farmers Insurance Open this weekend and a lot of top players like Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa will be there.
The PGA Tour has not said anything about the location, but Sports Illustrated and Golfweek are reporting that the move is in the air.
Other alternatives that might have a chance
Other venues outside of California have been considered, including PGA West near Palm Springs and TPC Scottsdale, which will host the Phoenix Open the week before Genesis.
It wouldn’t be the first time a course hosted two back-to-back Tour events. In 2020, Muirfield Village will host the Workday Charity Open and Memorial Tournament in consecutive weeks.

This tournament is where Woods made his PGA Tour debut while still in high school in 1992, and the 49-year-old tennis player has hosted the event since 2019.
Founded in 1926 in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood, Riviera has hosted a PGA Tour event every year since 1973, with the exception of 1983 and 1998.
This 2025 will be no exception and will go into the books as an anomaly, by destructive fires that struck Los Angeles, which forced the PGA Tour to defect from the country with almost a century of existence.
