New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso is having a great season with the New Yorkers, proving his worth, and Mets fans are excited about his performance.

Alonso is having a much better performance than Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor and several other hitters. He has been at his best and never hesitates to give it his all.

But during the game between the Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals, Alonso hit a deep drive to left-center field that hit the wall, causing Alonso to accelerate his pace as he tried to reach third base.

Pete Alonso’s run to third base was difficult, but he still gave it his all. However, some MLB fans had funny reactions to criticize him for his running style, especially when he headed from second to third.

Viral social media reactions to Pete Alonso’s race

After the video went viral, the amusing reactions on social media were not long in coming:

“It was exciting to see him hit a triple, but it was almost like something was stuck in his pants preventing him from reaching top speed,” wrote one fan.

“Brother, he became a Nintendo character and then created a Mario-style celebration,” replied another amused fan.

“It looks like a cartoon running,” added another.

Alonso’s high-flying season

After the drama during the offseason and free agency between Alonso and the Mets, there is no doubt that the first baseman is, for now, the best player in the Queens lineup.

Juan Soto, with a budget of $765 million, is behind the “Polar Bear”. Alonso is not only the home run leader, but also leads the team in most offensive categories.

The Mets made the wise decision to extend his contract and now Alonso is proving that he is worth every penny.

His batting average is .348, the fifth best in all of MLB. He also has six home runs and 23 RBIs, 26 hits, nine of them doubles and now a triple, plus three stolen bases.

The only department Soto leads is in runs scored with two more than the Polar Bear.
