For some baseball analysts in the United States, it seems incredible that Pete Alonso and his agent, Scott Boras, have ‘given up’ so soon on the New York Mets in their quest to secure a long-term contract for a considerable sum of money, without taking into account that the famous ageing curve is playing against the first baseman in the midst of a market that is increasingly looking at this.

The original claims no longer exist

The deal between Alonso and the Mets is not closed, but it is known that Boras has already said his last word and will not move from there, and it is a three-year contract with termination clauses, which is ‘only for the eyes’ of the Queens team. However, this deal is a far cry from the original demands of one of the best sluggers in the majors.

Analyst Will Sammon of The Athletic was on the podcast Foul Territory with A.J. Pierzynski and there he talked about Pete Alonso’s situation in the midst of this soap opera with the Mets and still does not believe that the player has given in, with a smaller deal: “It was new to me. He’s a hometown fan favorite, who they really appreciate. If he wants to remain a Met, this might be the best avenue for him,” Sammon said in response to Pierzynski’s ironic observation: “Hey, I’ll take the three years. I know I was looking for five or six but I’ll take the three-year offer. It’s a strange situation. I’ve never heard of that before.”

Pete Alonso can leave ‘whenever he wants’

The problem for Mets fans is the volatility, as with this deal the famous ‘Polar Bear’ stays with the team, but that can change at any time, depending on how the season goes and how the player feels inside, which makes this eventual conclusion of the matter unfavorable for the Queens team.

Scott Boras can boast that he is still earning the millions he makes as an agent for high-flying baseball players, as he was able to ‘get’ this deal, despite the fact that it seems very disadvantageous for the team, and that Pete Alonso controls the frying pan, the handle and the temperature.

For now, we have to wait and see if there is a signature or not, and then, with the passage of time, see who is right.
