In another of the rumors about Pete Alonso and the New York Mets, it is now said that there has not been a contract that convinces the slugger to stay in Queens, after he rejected the qualifying offer. However, it has emerged that his current team wants to offer him a short-term contract for around $90 million

The problem with the Florida-born first baseman is that while he wants a long-term deal to stay in Queens, the Mets are only looking to retain him for less time and less money, which is driving him further and further away from the team he helped reach the playoffs last season in which he hit 34 home runs.

Interest from the West Coast

This is where other players come in, and one in particular from the American League West division has stepped forward after learning of the peculiar tug-of-war between the slugger and his still-team, until free agency says otherwise.

This is the Los Angeles Angels, a team that according to Jon Heyman, would be looking for Alonso to add him to their roster and put him to play with the impressive veteran Mike Trout, preferably with a long-term contract to put Alonso in his natural position, sending Nolan Schanuel to the outfield, and adding other figures such as Jorge Soler and Anthony Rendon, others who are looking for a team in free agency.

The Mets are of course stretching the league and want to let it go to the limit, while Pete Alonso continues to listen to offers, some of which according to his critics would be like the siren song in a rough sea, when the player has within reach a safe shore in Queens, although it is not exactly what he would have wanted.
