The last free week of Major League Baseball is about to begin, before players begin to report for MLB Spring Training in 2025, and there are still some gems available in free agency, a list headed by Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso, who have had a complicated winter market, despite the fact that it was expected that they would quickly get their new deal.
Although the two infielders have had offers from several teams, they have not been finalized. On the one hand, Bregman flirted with a return to the Houston Astros, while Pete Alonso did the same to extend his adventure in Queens with the New York Mets, but in both cases negotiations remain stalled.
The main problem for the hitters has been the strategy recommended by their agent Scott Boras, in seeking a long-term deal, Bregman wants seven years and Alonso is looking for five years.
Blue Jays open the door to Pete Alonso and Alex Bregman
There has been much talk about the poor results of the Toronto Blue Jays when it comes to trying to improve their roster with talented players after being snubbed by Roki Sasaki, Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes and Shohei Ohtani, but they have managed to turn things around with the signing of Anthony Santander and veteran pitcher Max Scherzer.
The recent additions join the team’s stars Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette and George Springer, although if they manage to add the two most sought-after players among the free agents available, they will enhance their aspirations to be contenders in the American League for a ticket to the 2025 World Series.
According to MLB expert Hector Gomez, there is a report indicating the interest of the Toronto Blue Jays in Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso.
“The Blue Jays have offers for Pete Alonso (three years) and Alex Bregman (six years). The Jays are interested in signing either of them,” Gomez posted on his X account.
The next step for the player who takes the Blue Jays offer will be to agree on the length of the contract and the salary figure, but at this stage they could be more flexible, as Spring Training is just around the corner
