The starting pitchers for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game have officially been named, and the spotlight will shine on two of the game’s most dominant arms: Paul Skenes of the Pittsburgh Pirates for the National League, and Tarik Skubal of the Detroit Tigers for the American League.

For Skenes, this marks his second consecutive All-Star start-a feat made even more remarkable by the fact that it’s only his second season in the major leagues.

The 22-year-old right-hander has emerged as one of the most electric pitchers in baseball, already living up to the hype that surrounded him when he was selected first overall in the 2023 MLB Draft.

So far this season, Skenes has posted a stellar 2.01 ERA over 121 innings, racking up 131 strikeouts. While his win-loss record stands at 4-8, the numbers suggest he’s received limited run support rather than underperforming. With only 27 earned runs allowed, 82 hits surrendered, and just six home runs given up, his dominance on the mound is clear.

On the American League side, Skubal is enjoying a breakout campaign of his own. Though this will be his second All-Star selection, it’s his first time starting the Midsummer Classic. The 27-year-old lefty has been a model of consistency and effectiveness for the Tigers throughout the season.

Skubal brings a 10-3 record into the All-Star Game, alongside a 2.23 ERA. He’s matched Skenes in innings pitched with 121, but has outpaced him in strikeouts, totaling 153-second-most in the majors as of early July. Skubal has allowed 84 hits, 30 earned runs, and nine homers across his starts, establishing himself as a top-tier contender for the AL Cy Young Award.

All-Star stage set for a marquee matchup

The 2025 MLB All-Star Game will take place on Tuesday, July 15 at Truist Park in Atlanta, with first pitch scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. Fans can expect a thrilling matchup as two Cy Young frontrunners go head-to-head in one of the sport’s most prestigious showcases.

Skenes’ overpowering fastball and strikeout prowess will be tested against a loaded American League lineup, while Skubal’s sharp command and high strikeout rate make him a formidable challenge for the National League hitters.

This year’s All-Star Game not only highlights the league’s brightest young stars but also offers a preview of potential postseason storylines and future pitching rivalries. With both starters at the top of their game, all eyes will be on Atlanta for what promises to be a memorable night.
