The Kasnas City Chiefs‘ Patrick Mahomes swaps the NFL for the MLB as he gives the Royals a rallying war cry ahead of the 2025 baseball season as they return to action for the season opener against the Cleveland Guardians.
Mahomes finds himself embedded in the heart of Kansas City sports after dominating the NFL with the Chiefs and funding the Kansas City Current, as well as pushing for a WNBA franchise to start up in the city too.
But on Thursday, March 27 the 30-year-old turned his attentions firmly to the bat-and-ball as the Royals aim to push on from their impressive 86-76 season that saw them reach the American League Divisional Series against the New York Yankees.
The lead forwards to a .531 record marked a 30-win improvement compared to 2023 and the buzz is in the air that the players at Kauffman Stadium can take another stride in 2025 their bid for a first World Series since 2015, and the quarterback buys into that too.
“Let’s go!!! #OpeningDay,” Mahomes posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, quote tweeting some iconography from the official Royals account.
Of course, Mahomes is more than just a fan when it comes to the MLB team. Supporters will remember him in the stands as they took on the Yankees, but few know he is actually a part owner of the team after securing stakes in 2020.
“I’m honored to become a part owner of the Kansas City Royals,” Mahomes said in a press release in 2020. “I love this city and the people of this great town.
“This opportunity allows me to deepen my roots in this community, which is something I’m excited to do.”
What time to the Royals take on the Guardians?
Opening Day sees KC welcome the Guardians to the Kauffman Stadium, another team looking to step it up a notch from 2024 after finishing first in the American League Central with a 92-69 record.
They made it to the AL Championship Series, where they were eventually beaten by the Yankees like the Royals were in the previous round although the Dodgers avenged them in the World Series.
The Royals vs the Guardians will take place on Thursday, March 27, with first pitch at 16:10 ET/13:10 PT.
