In a rare and heartfelt moment away from the spotlight of the NFL, Patrick Mahomes featured in a deeply personal tribute to his younger sister as the mother of the Kansas City Chiefs star delivers a loving message.

The touching comment came from Randi Mahomes, who took to Instagram to mark Mia’s 14th birthday with an emotional post that quickly gained attention across social media platforms.

“Happy 14th birthday to my beautiful girl Mia!!,” Randi wrote online. “You light up every room with your smile and your heart.

“I couldn’t be prouder to be your mom. Watching you grow into the young woman you’re becoming is the greatest gift! You’ll always be my little girl.”

The message resonated widely with fans and followers of the family whom have watched Patrick’s meteoric rise in the NFL as a reminder that behind the fame, endorsements, and championship rings, they enjoy their personal bonds and values.

Particularly, the post struck a chord with those who admire the family’s commitment to maintaining strong, loving relationships despite the pressures of life in the public eye.

Patrick Mahomes calls out NFL expansion plans

While the birthday tribute offered a personal look at the Mahomes family dynamic, Patrick has also been making headlines for a different reason through his stance on player safety amid proposals to expand the NFL’s regular season.

As discussions around increasing the number of regular-season games from 17 to 18 continue, the 29-year-old voiced concerns about the potential toll on players, who may already be at their physical limits.

“More games are tough on the body,” Mahomes told CNBC Sport. “If we’re going to go to 18, we need more bye weeks.

“Same with international games, planning matters.”

His comments highlight a growing tension within the league as owners and officials push for increased global exposure and revenue through additional games, both in the United States and abroad.

Since 2022, all 32 NFL teams have been assigned to play at least one international game over an eight-year cycle, including in countries such as Mexico, Canada, and the United Kingdom adding extra travel time to an already intense calendar.

“17 games is a long season,” Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner, said. “So we want to make sure we look at that and make sure that we continue the safety efforts.”

He added that substituting a preseason game with a regular-season one could be a “good trade.” However, for any such changes to move forward, negotiations with the NFL Players Association remain essential.

Mahomes will kick off his 2025/26 NFL season with the Chiefs in Brazil as they take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, some 5443 miles away in South America – underscoring the quarterback’s point about the tough schedule.
