Patrick Mahomes was front and centre at the Texas Tech-Houston college basketball game on Monday night.
Although the Red Raiders came up short against the number four team in the country, it was still a memorable evening in Lubbock for one fan.
During a timeout, Texas Tech student Blake Porter drained a 94-foot putt that won him a pair of AirPods Max. Mahomes happened to be sitting courtside for the game, and he joined in celebrating with Porter.
Mahomes adds to Porter’s big night
Although the putt made national headlines, things didn’t stop there after Porter was invited to appear on The Today Show on NBC.
Asked to try and make another 94-foot putt, the Texas Tech student almost pulled it off again, however his two attempts came up inches short.
However, that wasn’t the biggest moment as Mahomes had a special message for Porter via video.
“What’s up Blake?” Mahomes said. “What an awesome moment it was for you the other night. I was so excited to be just a small part of it. And I know you think you know what you won, but what you don’t know is that Texas Tech Athletics is going to be paying your tuition next fall.
“And on top of that, Adidas and I are going to make you an honorary member of Team Mahomes. So we’re going to be sending a nice care package your way to support your golf game. Congrats again, and enjoy your time on The Today Show.”
The moment was clearly a big one for Porter, and is another instance of Mahomes giving back to his alma mater.
Safe to say that even though the Red Raiders came up short in the game against Houston, it’s one that Porter won’t soon forget.
