Patrick Mahomes celebrates Texas high school football roots with Brittany by his side

Patrick Mahomes has become one of the defining quarterbacks of this NFL generation-a three-time Super Bowl champion, two-time league MVP, and the face of a Kansas City dynasty. But for all his success on the biggest stages, Mahomes has never forgotten where his journey began: Whitehouse High School in East Texas.

More than a decade after his high school days, Mahomes returned home to be inducted into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, a personal milestone that highlighted just how far he’s come.

“It was really cool when you see the kind of display and it’s a picture of me and Brittany in high school… and we’re living out the dream now,” Mahomes said in a recent interview with Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

The photo-him at quarterback, Brittany Mahomes on the sideline in her cheer uniform-has become emblematic of a shared journey that started long before NFL lights.

Mahomes launches ‘Team Mahomes’ to give back to Texas high school football

Mahomes‘ Hall of Fame induction wasn’t just about reflection-it marked the start of a new mission. During the ceremony, he announced the launch of Team Mahomes, a partnership with Adidas Football that will provide support and gear to 15 high schools, beginning with his alma mater, Whitehouse.

“As a part of this recognition… I’m proud to announce that @adidasfballus and I are signing 15 high schools to Team Mahomes that will represent my Gladiator logo,” Mahomes shared.

The initiative is more than symbolic. For many young athletes across Texas, it’s a tangible show of support from someone who walked their exact path. For Mahomes, it’s a way of making sure the next generation gets opportunities he didn’t.

Brittany Mahomes, as always, was right there. She posted a simple but meaningful “Go Wildcats” from the event, a nod to the school where their story began. The moment, much like their high school photograph, felt like something lifted from a movie script.

Mahomes‘ connection to Whitehouse is deeply personal-and enduring. Since graduating in 2014, he’s appeared on the cover of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football every single year.

That streak continued in 2025, and he doesn’t expect it to end anytime soon. “Still to this day,” he said, “I have a guy that runs our media in Kansas City-and he brings me the magazine every single year and hands it to me and tells me all about the Whitehouse Wildcats and what we’re going to do this year.”

But beyond the photo ops and magazine covers, Mahomes paid tribute to the deeper impact of Dave Campbell‘s work. “Everybody knew about the communities. There were movies about it. But no one could really put it all together. And Dave Campbell did that with his magazines.”

In a state where Friday night lights are closer to scripture than sport, Mahomes is both a legend and a living reminder of what Texas football can create.

And no matter how many NFL accolades he racks up, for Whitehouse, he’ll always be their quarterback.
