The Miami Heat have been one of the premier organizations in the NBA for the past two decades. The three NBA Championships speak for themselves, as do the amount of elite star players that have worn the colors. Yet despite making the NBA Finals twice and the Eastern Conference Finals three times in the past six seasons, fans are begging for more from team president Pat Riley.

The Heat have gotten by in recent years behind the incredible coaching of Erik Spoelstra, who has maximized his rosters and gotten strong postseason performances from Jimmy Butler. There was a time not long ago when Riley and the Heat secured “whales” in free agency like it was nothing, but that has become uncommon in recent times. That has fans hoping for something to change. Instead, fans got even worse news on Thursday.

Millions of dollars in Miami Heat authentic memorabilia stolen and sold in inside job

NBA analyst Amin Elhassan appeared on The Dan LeBatard Show, where he frequently speaks, and broke a shocking story regarding the Heat. According to Elhassan, a secret heist of authentic Heat memorabilia took place under the organization’s nose, resulting in “millions of dollars” of stuff being stolen.

Authenticated memorabilia stolen from the Miami Heat, and sold for many, many, many, many, many millions of dollars. Game-worn Finals stuff, and this person was taking them and selling them both within the regular market and within the black market. As it was described to me, this is one of the largest, if not the largest, memorabilia heists in the history of this country in any sport.

According to reports, those involved in the inside job were a Miami officer and a person with ties to the NBA. A federal investigation is underway, as the Heat now have more eyes on them than usual.
