Pat Mahomes Sr. knows very well how to dodge pitches. The former Major League Baseball pitcher appeared in court this past Monday, March 9, 2026, for allegedly violating the terms of his probation.

The outcome for the father of the quarterback who has won three Super Bowls with the Kansas City Chiefs can be described as acceptable at best. Although he managed to avoid jail, he will now have to meet additional requirements while remaining under supervised release

The legal troubles of Patrick Mahomes’ father

Mahomes’ father ended up in court after prosecutors filed charges against the former MLB pitcher for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol on January 1, 2026. At the time, he was already on probation due to a similar case that had occurred in 2024.

According to the report outlining the situation, the alcohol monitoring device he wears on his ankle registered elevated levels on that particular day.

Fortunately for him, the case took an unexpected turn. According to reports, a hair follicle alcohol test came back clean, and Mahomes did not admit to having consumed alcohol.

The circumstances ultimately played in his favor during the proceedings and helped prevent the situation from escalating further.

The judge shows leniency toward Pat Mahomes Sr.

The judge presiding over the case ultimately decided not to revoke his probation and send him to jail. However, that does not mean he is completely free of responsibility or consequences.

Although the court chose not to incarcerate him, the judge did extend the terms of his probation. In addition, Mahomes must complete a 16-week outpatient treatment program as part of the conditions imposed by the court.

His probation period will now extend to seven years. He also received a sanction of 30 days in custody, which were credited as time already served, allowing him to be released the same day.

It is worth recalling that Mahomes Sr. has been arrested on several occasions over the years for driving under the influence of alcohol. Despite those incidents, he has not been involved in any accident related to alcohol consumption.

Up to this point, if it can be described as fortune, none of those episodes has resulted in a crash or serious consequences while he was allegedly under the influence.

Patrick Mahomes continues his recovery

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, son of Pat Mahomes Sr., continues to recover from the torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered during the game against Denver, a loss that ultimately eliminated the team from playoff contention in the 2025 season.

The star quarterback later underwent successful surgery and has already begun the rehabilitation process in order to regain strength in his knee and return to leading his franchise in pursuit of another championship appearance.

Although there has been no official confirmation, everything seems to indicate that he will remain alongside his longtime teammate and close friend, Travis Kelce.

Images circulating in recent days appear to support that possibility as the Chiefs prepare for the upcoming season and hope to once again compete at the highest level in the NFL.
