In a tragic and shocking case, the parents of three Kansas City Chiefs fans who were found dead in a friend’s backyard have finally broken their silence. The lifeless bodies of Ricky Johnson Jr., 38, David Harrington, 37, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, were discovered on January 9, 2024, in the backyard of their friend Jordan Willis’ home. The trio had gathered to watch the NFL team’s’ final regular season game two days earlier.
The case took a significant turn when Platte County prosecutors charged Jordan Willis and another man, Ivory Carson, with three counts of involuntary manslaughter and two counts of delivering a controlled substance. The charges came after a 14-month investigation that revealed the trio had died from a deadly cocktail of fentanyl and cocaine.
Theresa Harrington, David Harrington’s mother, expressed her frustration with the investigation, stating that she had been kept out of the loop and felt that the authorities had already made up their minds about the case. “They wouldn’t tell me anything,” she told the Daily Mail. “The statements made it easy to think they had already made up their mind and there wouldn’t be any further investigation”.

Rick Johnson, Ricky Johnson Jr.’s father, expressed his relief at the charges being filed and vowed to attend every court hearing involving Willis and Carson. “I am happy with the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office and the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department for filing charges,” he told Fox 4 Kansas City. “It’s been a long time. And I’ll be at every court date”.
The investigation revealed that Willis, an HIV researcher, claimed he went to bed in the early hours of January 8 and did not know the three men were outside. He also claimed he did not hear the relatives of the men knocking on his door before their bodies were discovered because he was wearing headphones.
Police recovered two bags of drugs: one containing cocaine, the other fentanyl. DNA samples from the bag of cocaine were mostly from Willis, while Carson’s DNA was found all over the bag of fentanyl.
As the case moves forward, the families of the victims continue to seek answers and justice for their loved ones. The arrests of Willis and Carson have brought some measure of relief, but the grieving parents remain determined to uncover the full truth behind the tragic deaths of their sons.
