Paige Spiranac is known for making golf look glamorous and carefree on social media, but in a new confession, the influencer exposed the raw reality behind the sport.

In a deeply personal YouTube video, Spiranac described a recent experience on the course that left her shaken and brought back the pressures that once pushed her away from professional golf.

“I had a really traumatic experience on the golf course recently, which actually stemmed this entire video idea,” Spiranac said.

“I hit my drive beautifully on the first hole, then shanked my pitching wedge. I ended up making bogey.” The nightmare continued on the second hole. “Shanked my driver, OB. Shanked another driver, hit an okay 3-wood. Then I shanked another shot.”

Spiranac initially assumed she was hitting off the hosel, a common mistake that causes shanks, but soon realized the problem was stranger. She was making contact so far on the toe that the ball barely touched the clubface.

“I still have a little bit of PTSD from hitting that shot, especially with my wedges,” she admitted. “I just didn’t feel comfortable there because I still have that memory really ingrained in my body.”

Revisiting the pressure of tournament golf

For Spiranac, the meltdown was more than just a bad day on the course. It reopened wounds from her short-lived attempt at a professional career, which ended in 2016 when she failed to secure an LPGA Tour card.

She has long been open about how the relentless pressure of tournament golf altered her relationship with the sport, creating mental hurdles that linger years later.

“It’s scary when you hit a shot like that and you’re on the golf course and you don’t know why,” Spiranac said, noting how the uncertainty still sparks anxiety.

She also acknowledged the privilege of her current career as a content creator while emphasizing that her fears on the course are authentic and deeply rooted.

The influencer has built a large following by combining instruction, entertainment, and candid honesty about the realities of golf. Her latest admission adds another layer to that transparency, shedding light on the mental challenges that even skilled players face behind the scenes.
