In a town with 15,000 inhabitants, Paige Bueckers stood out with her game since she was five years old and caught the attention of her neighbors in Edina. Now, her hometown will try to repay her for the joys it has given her with this incredibly warm tribute.
Her former Hopkins coach, Brian Cosgriff, recalled Paige’s first steps into the sport and into fame. As time went on and well into her senior year, nearly thirteen hundred people waited for Bueckers to exit the locker room so they could share a moment with her. According to Essentially Sport, Brian said that she:
She would stay to sign autographs. She would sign or take pictures with every one of them.
Now, the Hopkins City Council decided to honor her on the day of her WNBA debut with the Dallas Wings and voted to celebrate “Paige Bueckers Day”.
As if that wasn’t enough, the city also decided that on that day Hopkins will be renamed “Paige Bueckers, Minnesota”. Undoubtedly, the support of her fans will be a big boost to her debut and her career.
What will Paige’s debut with Wings be like?
For Bueckers, there couldn’t be a better setting. Dallas will face her favorite team as a child, Minnesota Lynx, at the College Park Center.
Plus, the Paige effect is echoing throughout the league, as tickets to see the game are sold out. In the same vein, the official Dallas Wings website has increased its visits by 905%, filling with expectations and opening the possibility that the impact will be even greater than last season.
