The competitive nature of professional sports often makes fans forget that even elite athletes have idols of their own. But every so often, candid and lighthearted moments remind us that stars like Paige Bueckers and Azzi Fudd still look up to others.

Bueckers and Fudd made waves a few weeks ago when they confirmed their relationship during WNBA All-Star Weekend. Since then, the couple hasn’t shied away from sharing their journey-most recently in a conversation on the Instagram’s Close Friends Only podcast, streamed on YouTube.

The chat, hosted by the duo themselves, covered everything from how their relationship began to their ideal day off, favorite fashion picks, close friendships, and-during one hilarious moment-their favorite WNBA players.

Paige and Azzi spill the truth

When the question came up, the UConn Huskies icons didn’t hold back. Fudd went first, cheekily flirting with her girlfriend: “Probably Paige Bueckers.” The Dallas Wings guard laughed and replied, “I was about to say, ‘Mind you, I’m in the WNBA now.'”

On a more serious note, Fudd named Napheesa Collier as her “second favorite,” adding, “Everything about her game is just perfect.”

Then it was Bueckers’ turn-though not without a playful warning from Fudd: “You can’t say yourself.” Paige shot back, “Bro, I’m not gonna say myself. Why do you act like that?”

Once the laughter died down, Bueckers admitted, “If I had to pick a non-former teammate, I would probably say [Collier].” She added with a grin, “I think it was the first game of the season-she tried to post me up like I was baby food or something.”

heir NBA favorites? No debate there

Naturally, the conversation turned to their favorite NBA players. Fudd didn’t hesitate: Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry. Bueckers, meanwhile, was torn between Curry and Dallas Mavericks guard Kyrie Irving.

Right now, the two are at very different points in their careers. Paige and the Wings are gearing up for the end of the WNBA regular season, while Azzi is preparing to kick off her final NCAA season with UConn.
