To the delight, or maybe chagrin, of boxing fans, Oscar De La Hoya‘s notorious “Clapback Thursday” series is back in full force. It had been a little bit since the Golden Boy Boxing promoter went in on anything and anyone, but he brought it back this week in order to take aim at some big names. De La Hoya focused on Canelo Alvarez mostly, but in different aspects.
He attacked the notion that Canelo’s upcoming fight against Terence Crawford is the “biggest fight of the decade“. In the eyes of the Golden Boy, Alvarez will make easy work of “Bud”, who’s going up two weight classes after going toe-to-toe with Israil Madrimov in his own weight class most recently. He also called out Alvarez for not caring about his Mexican fans, but his most damning statement came against Alvarez’s longtime trainer, Eddy Reynoso.
Oscar De La Hoya says Eddy Reynoso’s camps need to be investigated after positive PED tests
Reynoso has had several of his boxers submit positive PED tests in recent times, with the most recent being Jaime Munguia. De La Hoya was Munguia’s main promoter for a decade, and points out that he didn’t test positive until he started working with Reynoso. In his mind, that should warrant an investigation.
Many members of the boxing media have been paid off by certain people and essentially muzzled. Six fighters, and nobody’s investigating this? This doesn’t seem suspicious, or out of the ordinary to you? Doesn’t this warrant an investigation of Eddy’s camps? How is it ethical that you have six fighters testing dirty from the same camp, and we don’t have questions?
De La Hoya continues to wage war against Alvarez, who has been working with Reynoso for the past two decades. Making such strong claims against Reynoso can also be taken as a subliminal shot at Alvarez.
