The feud between former champion Oscar De La Hoya and commentator Joe Rogan continues to escalate, now involving a third party, Dana White. In the most recent episode of their ongoing war of words, De La Hoya challenged the popular podcaster to a match that includes UFC promoter and owner Dana White, asserting that he can face both simultaneously.
The rivalry between De La Hoya and Rogan dates back at least three years, when Rogan questioned the authenticity of the former world champion’s abs in a chat with Belal Muhammad. Since then, both have exchanged criticisms and questions, with tensions constantly rising.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Rogan criticized De La Hoya for his comments about Terence Crawford’s ranking. As expected, the owner of Golden Boy Promotions did not remain silent. However, he did not just respond to the criticism; he also launched an unusual challenge to Rogan, promising that it would be the best episode of his career.
De La Hoya vs. Rogan + White
In a video posted on his Instagram account, De La Hoya launched a full-throttle attack against Rogan, saying, “Joe, it must be in your contract to speak ill of me and not say one nice word about me.” He also criticized the commentator for never inviting him to his show, implying that Rogan does so on White’s orders.
“Bro, stop being petty,” De La Hoya claimed. “You refuse to put me on your podcast when the majority of your content is MMA or boxing-centered. I mean, I get that daddy Dana will not let you have me on the podcast,” said the promoter, ending with an unusual challenge to Rogan.
“Let me propose something. This will be the highest-rated show you’ll ever do,” De La Hoya said. “Have me and your daddy Dana on the podcast together, two against one. And I’m fine with that because I’m an open book.”
Crawford’s inappropriate ranking
This new episode in the feud between De La Hoya and Rogan began when the promoter criticized Terence Crawford for being the top-ranked fighter at 154 pounds “when he doesn’t even fight at that weight anymore. I’m commenting because my fighter, Vergil Ortiz, beat Israil Madrimov last Saturday much easier than Crawford did.”
It’s certain that this won’t be the last we hear of this growing rivalry. The question is, how will Rogan respond to De La Hoya’s challenge? Will he dare to moderate an interview with the former champion and Dana White at the same time? Knowing Rogan, it won’t be long before he gives an answer, but it probably won’t be the one we expect.
