Olivia Dunne says she has proof that her story with Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Paul Skenes began long before they ever spoke.
The LSU gymnast shared on social media that while her mother was clearing out some of her belongings, she stumbled across a ticket stub that tied their lives together in an unexpected way.
“Invisible strings are real,” Dunne said in the video she posted. “So right now, I’m in Jersey, and my mom is moving stuff out of my house in Louisiana for me. And as we know, I was in college for five years. I have a lot of stuff in my house. Then my mom finds this, it’s a ticket to the LSU vs. Air Force baseball game. And Paul was on Air Force’s team. That was my first college baseball game ever, and I didn’t even know him.”
A twist neither of them saw coming
Until now, Dunne believed her first time seeing Skenes pitch was when he transferred to LSU in 2022. The ticket changed that story entirely, revealing she had unknowingly watched him during his Air Force days.
“Like, that is crazy. I always knew he played LSU, but I never thought I was at that game,” she added. “Like, I didn’t know I was there, and I went to that game! That is just wild to me. I don’t know, it was meant to be.”
From a random game to a shared journey
The couple’s relationship has quickly made them one of sports’ most-followed young duos, blending Skenes‘ rapid rise in MLB with Dunne‘s massive following as a gymnast and influencer.
This unexpected connection adds another chapter to their story, turning what was once just a forgotten ticket into a sign of how their paths were destined to cross.
“He’s pretty level-headed all the time, which I love,” she told ESPN in the past. “I think that we’re a really good pair because of that. I have such a crazy lifestyle, and things get thrown my way all the time, and sometimes my emotions sway up and down. He’s very level, and I just think it’s a very good match.”
