As breaking news, it has been revealed that American boxer Jake Paul has found his next opponent. The fight will take place in Miami, Florida, in December and will be streamed on Netflix. This comes after the boxer was forced to cancel his fight with fellow American Gervonta Davis due to the domestic violence allegations against Davis.
Now, according to Ring magazine, Paul has turned his attention to British star Anthony Joshua, and negotiations for the fight are entering their final stages. The news comes just days after Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, hinted at a possible fight against Paul and spoke of the British star’s need for a ‘farewell’ bout.
Anthony Joshua hasn’t fought since his loss to Daniel Dubois
It’s important to note that Anthony Joshua hasn’t fought since his fifth-round knockout loss to Daniel Dubois in September 2024. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, hinted that the 36-year-old would return before the end of the year, and February 2026 is also being considered as a possible return date for the Olympic gold medalist.
Facing Joshua represents a significant step up in competition for Paul, who is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Julio César Chávez Jr. in June. Many will be interested to see if the 28-year-old has overdone it by taking on a legitimate heavyweight, but he will undoubtedly be motivated to prove that expectations are too high.
Allegations of assault, kidnapping, and unlawful detention put Gervonta Davis’s career at risk
As previously mentioned, Paul had already secured his fight against Gervonta Davis. However, it had to be canceled following the allegations against Davis. These allegations were filed on October 30 by Courtney Rossel, who had a five-month relationship with the WBA lightweight champion. Rossel accused the boxer of assault, kidnapping, unlawful detention, and other crimes.
The legal situation of Gervonta Davis, who had already faced previous allegations from another woman, casts doubt on his future in the professional circuit. Following the confirmation of the suspension, Jake Paul expressed his opinion via social media: “Gervonta Davis is an absolute piece of human garbage. Working with him is a nightmare.”
