It’s no secret that Mike McDaniel has become one of the top profiles available for both the NFL head coach vacancy and the offensive coordinator position-a dilemma he’ll have to resolve soon, as all reports indicate that at least two teams are considering him for these roles.
Recently, it was reported that the Los Angeles Chargers plan to sign McDaniel as their offensive coordinator, though on the horizon, his name is gaining traction to take over the job left vacant by John Harbaugh with the Baltimore Ravens.

That’s exactly the debate unfolding on social media among fans after it was revealed he could head to Los Angeles. According to Tom Pelissero, the agreement between the team and McDaniel is not a done deal yet, which opens the possibility that he remains on the market for a head coaching role.
“No deal has been signed. A head coaching spot could still materialize. But the OC job Mike McDaniel wants is with Justin Herbert in L.A.,” Pelissero wrote on his X account.
Mike McDaniel’s name continues to stand out among teams such as the Baltimore Ravens and the Las Vegas Raiders. He was also one of the options considered by the Cleveland Browns, though McDaniel himself informed the franchise that he did not want to be part of that process.
As Pelissero noted, if McDaniel ultimately takes an offensive coordinator job, it will be with the Chargers, but the Ravens remain very much in the picture.
McDaniel served as offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021 before accepting the head coach position with the Miami Dolphins in 2022.
McDaniel, 42, finished 35-33 with two playoff appearances in four seasons in Miami. However, his reputation was built in San Francisco, where his offensive acumen stood out during a five-year stretch that included four seasons as run game coordinator and one as offensive coordinator.
