The Los Angeles Dodgers‘ season has been criticized for its inconsistency at times in the first month, but they have managed to overcome this to be the best team in Major League Baseball at 23-11, despite all the injury problems they have faced, especially in pitching.

With starters Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow injured, the rotation was depleted, plus the bullpen also increased what has been dubbed the “Dodgers’ hospital”, while the lineup had held up until this weekend when second baseman Tommy Edman joined the list.

However, the Dodgers have an additional concern with the performance of their third baseman Max Muncy, who has posted very poor numbers, with a batting average of .186, with only one home run, seven RBIs and an OPS of .605. They could be interested in strengthening the position before the trade deadline, which for the 2025 season will be July 31.

Dave Roberts has Nolan Arenado in his sights

According to MLB expert Bob Nightengale, due to Muncy’s poor performance, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is interested in Nolan Arenado, the $260 million St. Louis Cardinals All-Star.

“Meanwhile, they are still trying to trade All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado. The Los Angeles Dodgers have yet to express interest, although they still hope that third baseman Max Muncy will overcome his early-season struggles,” Nightengale said.

According to a report from Essentially Sports, Max Muncy has been diagnosed with astigmatism in his right eye, which may have lowered his offensive productivity after having a good season in 2024.

The Cardinals are in the best position to trade Arenado, who in the offseason invoked his no-trade clause not to go to the Houston Astros, but has already given signals of wanting to go to Los Angeles, by posting photos on his social networks with the theme “Dodger blue” by Kendrick Lamar as background music and, according to Nightengale, he would be willing to go as soon as they ask for him.

“The Cardinals still want to trade him. I think Arenado will be traded at some point. If something happened to Max Muncy or something like that, Arenado would do somersaults to get to Los Angeles, his hometown,” Nightengale said.
