With the offseason coming to an end, NFL teams are preparing to make some of the toughest decisions of the year: cutting their rosters from 90 to 53 players. This process, which must be completed by August 27, is a crucial time for all teams, as where there are squads that let players go, there are others that look to take advantage of signing those who are left without a club.

The dynamics of the free agent market and the 2025 Draft have added a layer of complexity to teams’ decisions. For a player, being cut does not necessarily mean the end of his career in the league, as many quickly find a new home with other teams looking to strengthen their rosters before the start of the regular season.

These are the most prominent players who could be discarded

AFC EastCurtis Samuel – Buffalo Bills

Curtis Samuel signed a lucrative $24 million contract with the Buffalo Bills, which would not give the team much profit, but could still be feasible. The player did not perform well and only completed 253 receiving yards and one touchdown. With this, the team is looking for a greater impact on the roster and letting the player go could open the door to other figures.

AFC SouthTravis Etienne Jr. – Jacksonville Jaguars“I’ve talked to several people in the league who believe the new regime doesn’t have a very high opinion of Travis Etienne Jr,” ESPN expert Jeremy Fowler commented a couple of months ago about a player who did not live up to expectations and is likely to be released following the arrival of Bhayshul Tuten.

AFC NorthJoe Flacco – Cleveland Browns

In this case, age plays a trick on Joe Flacco, who at 40 years old would not be taken into account by the Cleveland Browns for a long-term project and where the roster added players in that position who are more projectable into the future.

AFC WestJa’Quan McMillian – Denver Broncos

Ja’Quan McMillian had very little involvement with the Broncos last year, where he only started nine games. Even so, he was made an exclusive rights free agent offer, but that does not guarantee that he will end up staying.

The arrival of Jahdae Barron to the Broncos could forge McMillian’s departure and thus have a new opportunity to be more prominent in another team.
