The wife of NFL linebacker Sione Takitaki has shed light on what it’s like to be married to a player going through the grind of free agency.
Takitaki is a free agent after being released by the New England Patriots three weeks ago. He spent one season with the team after signing as an unrestricted free agent last offseason after playing with the Cleveland Browns.
With his playing future still up in the air, Takitaki’s wife Alyssa has opened up on what the process of going through free agency is like, stating they are “essentially homeless.”
“The NFL free agency is crazy,” she began in a video shared on TikTok. “I don’t know where I’m going to live. I don’t know where I’m going to live! We’re essentially homeless… for now.
“But basically… free agency, they have teams calling. You’re trying to figure it out.
“I have no idea where we’re going to be though, and it always happens this way where you think you’re going somewhere and then last minute… you’re actually going over here.”
Alyssa, who shares newborn son Zion with Sione, stated that the uncertainty comes with the territory of being married to an NFL player.
“It’s happened every time,” said Alyssa, who married Takitaki in 2016. “Even when my husband got drafted, all of the teams that we thought we were going to… no, no, no. In fact, when he got the call, he was in the bathroom… the story is just so insane.
“The only sure thing in the NFL is that it’s unsure. I don’t know where we’re going to be, but I can count on the fact that we don’t know where we’re going to be.’
“I physically have to like slap myself when I start looking for homes or rentals on Zillow is just insane.”
Takitaki has become an established NFL player
Takitaki was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He played his college football at BYU.
During his six seasons in the league, he has played in 83 regular season games and made 40 starts. Takitaki has registered 258 tackles, four sacks and two interceptions.
Last season with the Patriots he played in 11 games and made four starts, finishing with 18 tackles.
