Tennis star Naomi Osaka revealed on Monday that she and rapper Cordae have ended their five-year relationship.
The announcement came via Osaka’s Instagram Story.
Osaka confirms split with baby daddy
The four-time Grand Slam champion assured fans the split was amicable and focused on their shared commitment to their 1-year-old daughter, Shai.
“Hi everyone, just wanted to say that Cordae and I are no longer in a relationship,”Osaka, 27, wrote in the post.
“No bad blood at all, he’s a great person and an awesome dad. Honestly really glad our paths crossed because my daughter is my biggest blessing and I was able to grow a lot from our experiences together.”
Osaka’s message did not specify when the breakup occurred, but rumors about a potential split began circulating in late 2023 when she deleted photos of Cordae from her social media.
Cordae, also 27, has yet to comment publicly on the news.
The pair began dating in 2018 and kept their relationship under wraps for nearly a year before making their first public appearance at a Los Angeles Clippers game in 2019.
Throughout their relationship, they often chose to keep details private, a sentiment Cordae echoed in a 2021 interview with GQ.
“A relationship is really a sacred thing. Once you let outside influences get into it, it becomes less sacred,” he said at the time.
Despite the breakup, Osaka remains positive about their co-parenting dynamic.
In a 2023 interview with InStyle, she praised Cordae’s laid-back nature and their shared commitment to their daughter’s well-being.
“At the end of the day, we both want what’s best for Shai,” she said.
The announcement comes shortly after Osaka was forced to withdraw from the WTA Auckland Open final due to an abdominal injury.
The former world No. 1, who returned to tennis last year after maternity leave, is now focused on her recovery and upcoming matches.
As one of the most celebrated athletes in her sport and with Cordae continuing to make waves in hip-hop, the pair will now navigate their next chapters separately while remaining dedicated to their daughter.
