The rivalry between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres has escalated quickly. It had been presenting certain moments that indicated it was going in this direction and now it is definitely up there with the rest.
To add more special moments, everyone remembers what happened during Game 2 of the National League Division Series in which Mookie Betts, and pretty much the rest of the world, thought he had a home run off Yu Darvish.
Jurickson Profar ended up robing Mookie after bringing that ball back but he waited a few seconds to let everyone know about it and then showed the ball by throwing it back to the infield while jumping and celebrating. This left Betts traumatized.
Incredibility on Mookie’s face
During the third game of the series, the atmosphere at Petco Park was worthy of a playoff series and of this rivalry and what better way to start it that with drama. In the top of first inning, Mookie Betts stepped up to the plate with one out after Michael King retired Shohei Ohtani.
Mookie worked a full count after starting behind 0-2; he then got a sweeper he hit down the line to left field Jurickson Profar once again reached for it grazing it with his glove but time he couldn’t hold on. The crowd was confused and so was Mookie.
Betts started running off the field but the umpires told him it was a home run. He was stunned as he faced showed he actually hit a dinger after struggling offensively as he trotted back to second base to touch that bag and the rest. He did celebrate the home run, even after being surprised about it.
