The days are passing in the winter market and free agency still has two players with the talent to strengthen any lineup, but economic pretensions have stopped teams from closing deals with Alex Bregman and Pete Alonso, both represented by agent Scott Boras.

With Spring Training just around the corner, all the free agents still available are eager to find a new team, to end the uncertainty and to have time to prepare in the best way for the 2025 MLB season.

Alex Bregman is still among the options for a return to the Houston Astros, but the third baseman seems unwilling to give in to their conditions, so he could opt for a change and, for MLB expert Jeff Passan, the New York Yankees would be his ideal destination.

“I can’t believe Alex Bregman is sitting on the court right now and the Yankees aren’t interested in him. The Yankees have a hole right now, whether it’s at third or second base. He’s been a guy who’s been incredible in the playoffs, he’s someone who’s rock solid defensively, a phenomenal base runner, makes a lot of contact,” Passan said during an appearance on Talkin’ Yanks.

It’s the perfect time for a lower price for Bregman

With Spring Training less than two weeks away, Passan believes it is the perfect time for the Yankees to consider throwing a lure to convince Bregman at a lower price and add to their roster a piece they are missing and that will bring them his defensive talent. Despite the fact that at 31 years of age he is no longer the same offensively, last season he still hit 26 home runs with the Astros.

“It’s one thing to say no to Bregman in November or December. It’s completely different when we’re a few weeks away from spring training. The guy is looking for a job, the opportunity to sign him at a lower price is eminently available,” Passan concluded.
