The wildfires raging across Los Angeles have caused unprecedented destruction, claiming at least five lives and forcing over 130,000 residents to flee their homes.
With hundreds of properties destroyed, many people have been left homeless, seeking refuge wherever they can. Among them is boxing icon Mike Tyson, who has used his platform to share crucial information and support the victims.
Tyson’s call for action and compassion
In a heartfelt message shared on his Instagram, Tyson, 58, offered a helping hand to those impacted by the wildfires. Known for his connection to Los Angeles, where he has spent much of his life, Tyson expressed his solidarity with the city. On his Instagram story, he provided information about human and animal evacuation shelters set up across LA, letting those affected know where to seek assistance.
Along with sharing the shelters’ details, Tyson wrote a simple yet powerful message: “Praying for LA.” His message not only conveyed his compassion but also highlighted ways for others to contribute.
Tyson urged his followers to donate household items and comfort supplies, which are needed in the relief efforts. His post is just one example of how public figures are helping raise awareness and encourage others to act in the face of this tragedy.
Los Angeles is no stranger to natural disasters, but the recent wildfire has been one of the most catastrophic events in the city’s history. The fire broke out in the Pacific Palisades area, a prestigious neighborhood between Santa Monica and Malibu. It started at 10:30 AM local time and quickly spread due to strong winds, engulfing the area in flames.
In just a matter of hours, three separate fires from nearby areas-Hurst, Woodley, and Eaton-merged into one massive blaze. The Pacific fire alone has burned over 17,200 acres, while the Eaton fire has consumed an additional 10,600 acres. To date, more than 2,000 structures have been destroyed. Despite the efforts of over 7,500 firefighters, the fires remain out of control.
Governor Gavin Newsom has deployed additional resources, and President Joe Biden has declared the situation a major disaster, activating federal assistance to support the firefighting and relief efforts.
