Since he retired from boxing, Mike Tyson has done just about everything. From appearing in movies to launching a cannabis company, Tyson has been nothing short of all over the place. But as a boxer, he resurface at the end of last year to try to prove a point to Jake Paul. Instead, Tyson fortified the notion that celebrity boxing is a sham.

For fans of Tyson, it was a sad spectacle, but it didn’t detract from his undying legacy. “Iron Mike” will always be a stone-cold killer to his fans, and his personality has always been one-of-one. During his prime, he was a particularly wild character. Now, we’re getting more information about the old Tyson, and one story has stood out, involving movie star and boxing fanatic Rosie Perez.

In an excerpt from a new Mark Kriegel book about Mike Tyson, titled “Baddest Man: The Making of Mike Tyson“, it’s revealed that Iron Mike once aggressively hit on Perez. According to the recollection, Tyson’s pick-up line was, “Damn, Wosie. You got a biscuit booty. Love to pour gravy all over that.

Unsurprisingly, it didn’t work. Perez apparently told him to “shut up”. Perez shooting him down did do something else, though: it created a friendship. She felt bad after rejecting him, as Tyson apparently “slumped over” in sadness. They hugged it out and began a friendship that continues to this day. So while Tyson didn’t get what he initially wanted, he got a friend in the hard-nosed Perez instead.

It makes sense for the two to be friends considering their pasts. Both Tyson and Perez had rough upbringings that forced them to toughen themselves up. Perez mentioned to the author of the book, Kriegel, that the two bonded over their childhood trauma: “Game recognizes game? Well, damage recognizes damage.
