Mike Tyson is in hot water after being sued in London for nearly $1.59 million over claims he violated an agreement to promote a gambling company in connection with a fight against social media influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
Medier, a Cyprus-based firm representing the online casino and betting platform Rabona, filed a lawsuit against the former heavyweight champion and his company, Tyrannic, for allegedly backing out of a deal signed in January. According to court documents submitted to London’s High Court, Tyson abruptly terminated the agreement in March the same day his fight with Paul was announced.
Medier claims Tyson accused the company of breaching the contract, but its legal representatives argue otherwise. They insist that Medier upheld its end of the bargain and that Tyson’s actions have resulted in financial losses estimated at 1.46 million.
“The real reason behind Mr. Tyson’s sudden and unlawful termination was his decision to sign a Netflix-sponsored deal to fight Jake Paul,” stated Medier’s attorney in publicized court filings on Friday.
Tyson remains silent
So far, neither Tyson, 58, nor Tyrannic has filed a defense in the case. Representatives for the legendary boxer have also refrained from commenting.
The legal drama adds another chapter to Tyson’s storied career, with the now-controversial fight against Paul already stirring mixed reactions. The bout, held last month in Texas, was broadcast live on Netflix and ultimately fell short of its massive hype, with Paul securing a unanimous decision victory.
While Medier seeks compensation for the alleged breach, Tyson’s future in the ring and his reputation outside it are at stake. With legal proceedings underway and fans divided over his recent match, the road ahead could be as unpredictable as his boxing career once was.
