The permission that the Dallas Cowboys denied Mike McCarthy to be the first interviewee by the Chicago Bears had consequences in the movement of pieces for the available head coaching positions, because it gave time to Chicago to have more options and hire Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator of the surprising Detroit Lions, who was left free after the elimination in the NFC Divisional Game against the Washington Commanders.

After leaving the Cowboys, McCarthy had the door closed on him by the Bears, but according to a report by Nick Underhill of NewOrleansFootball, he could be among the candidates to take over the New Orleans Saints, although they also want Aaron Glenn, who is very close to the New York Jets.

“Basically, it’s what I’ve heard recently in the last few days. If the Saints lose Glenn (which they will), then they will focus on Mike McCarthy, if Mike accepts another job, then they will move on to Joe Brady,” posted on his X account, Logan Graffia, a reporter for Free Agent Television.

Is a Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers reunion possible?

Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers reached glory together when they won Super Bowl XLV in 2011, and with the domino effect in the NFL, there could be time for a reunion to close their cycle, at least that’s what NFL expert Adam Schefter suggested if they can reach an agreement with the Saints.

“They have to be committed to Derek Carr, whoever the head coach is. If Mike McCarthy gets that job, and if Aaron Rodgers wants to play, and if they have the conversation, there’s a lot of doubt that has to happen before we can get there, in my opinion,” Schefter said.

Of course, in addition to McCarthy being the Saints choice, it would still remain to be seen whether Aaron Rodgers has the desire to play another season at 41 years of age and resolve his situation with the Jets.
